Studio Interviews: Kara Bernbeck

July 28, 2022

Although we have employee bios on the studio page of our website, we decided to conduct a more in-depth interview with each of our employees in hopes that people will truly see the charm of this team! Today we’re speaking to our graphic designer Kara Bernbeck:

Q: Tell me a bit about where you’re from

A: “I am from a small town called Stanton, Nebraska where I spent my childhood. Then I moved to Omaha, NE for 13 years and spent a majority of my life in school there.”

Kara recently moved to Denver, Colorado where she works remotely and spends her free time exploring the great outdoors! (Yes, we're super jealous.)

Q: Where did you go to college and what is your degree in

A: “I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing and Art History.”

Q: What got you interested in graphic design?

A: I had a passion for creativity and making things from a young age and I was introduced to graphic design in high school as a potential career path. I loved bridging the gap between my fine art skills and access to computers.

Kara always had a creative side!

Q: What is your favorite project you’ve worked on and why?

A: My favorite project I have done was a digital illustration series called the Impact Alphabet. It focused on our human impact on endangered animals which highlighted common themes of deforestation, pollution, poaching, and climate change. I feel like it is my purpose to bring awareness to environmental issues with my visuals that can be remembered and enact change, so most of my passion projects are inspired by activism.

Q: As you know, DayCloud is huge on discovering and mastering our Clifton Strengths. What are your strengths and how do they play into your role here?

A: Connectedness, Strategic, Input, Adaptability, and Intellection.

Connectedness is something that has always been a part of my life and a perspective I’ve always considered. Being a part of something bigger than myself helps me step into others’ shoes and work together. As an introvert, I spend a lot of time being introspective which explains why most of my themes fall in the Strategic Thinking category which allows me to explore ideas and think differently.

Fun fact: Kara presented a powerpoint delving into our teams' astrology at the DCS retreat this year. She laid out everyone's habitual virtues and vices which eventually led us to grow closer as a team! How's that for connectedness?

Q: What do you like about working at DayCloud?

A: I love our team, collaboration, and learning from each other. We all have such unique strengths that I feel inspired to create and do better every chance I get.

Q: What’s the coolest part about being a designer?

A: The coolest part about being a designer is taking something that only exists in my mind and sharing it with the world in really inventive ways!

Q: Give me a fun fact about yourself!

A: I can do the 5x5 rubick’s cube and I can sing (not well) with my mouth closed.

And no, she did not elaborate on or demonstrate the singing part… We’re going to have to get this on video at some point.
